Diana visually represents non-visual fragments of experience - often auditory and kinaesthetic - momentary thoughts and memories.
She takes inspiration from many sources, including visual references, and has developed an abstract expressionist style of painting reflecting her character and need to search for the ‘otherness’ or ‘intangible’ in life. She combines dyes and paints with collage and fabrics, layering, folding, shredding and tearing to create texture. Fascinated with the close and inseparable relationship between destruction and creation, Diana can be quite destructive during the creative process, frequently finding that the end stages of a painting actually only begins after this destructive phase.
Originally from London, her father, who was an artist/designer, inspired her love of visual language. Diana studied textile printing and dyeing at Whiteland’s College Putney in the 1970s, developing her colour and design skills. Her tutor, Nora Proud, included photographs of her work in the Batsford book Simple Textile Dyeing and Printing'. In 2010, Diana was awarded a First Class Honours Degree in Fine Art at Glyndwr University, Wrexham, and has been painting and drawing ever since. In 2012 Diana embarked on a 2 year Masters in Art Practice, and this included work using textiles. She is a founder member of the Inside Out Art Group and also a member of both the Borderland Visual Arts and Helfa Gelf. Diana was invited to display work in The Artist's Alley, San Francisco (Galiara.com). In 2012 she was also invited to show work in various art fairs both in London and New York.
She occasionally works to commission, and completed three large commissions in 2012. Diana has just completed (2014) an M.A. in Art Practice at Glyndwr University.
