Tom Cringle (EAGMA) was born in Norfolk in 1972. He went to local schools on the North Norfolk coast and spent most of his first 20 years either on the beach, walking on the marshes, swimming or windsurfing in the sea in and around Norfolk and Suffolk. His parents were keen sailors, as is he. They had a dinghy and a larger sailing boat on which his family would stay during summer; so he spent most of this time passively absorbing the wonderful views and scenes that he now enjoys painting. Tom studied architecture at Brighton University, he then proceeded to work in construction as a builder and designer. It was at this time that he started to paint. He started painting the views he knew of the coast and the local scenes around him. People who saw his work liked it and he was soon asked to exhibit his work locally. Sales followed, interest grew and he started to change profession. He now works exclusively as a professional artist, his works are predominantly paintings in acrylic and oil. He is a self-taught artist who has now been exhibiting and selling work for over 20 years.
Tom loves to paint the large skies that are seen over the beaches of Norfolk and Suffolk. In particular he likes to paint on big canvases which allow as much sky to be seen as possible, as well as showing the wide and beautiful beaches that stretch along the East Anglian coast. In recent years, Tom has also developed smaller paintings looking at landscapes and figures; particularly those people working on and around the sea and coast. He also paints views of places he has been lucky enough to travel to. These include cityscapes of New York, the Californian coast, New Mexico and Europe.
Tom has had many exhibitions over the years, both locally and further afield. He exhibits work permanently in galleries in Norfolk and Suffolk and his work often appears in shows and galleries in other places.Tom has recently been accepted as a member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists (EAGMA) Tom lives near Norwich with his family and frequently visits the coast to walk and paint. He is a full time professional artist.
